I have just returned from teaching a wonderful workshop in Bulgaria with a herd of 17 Balkan horses and a human herd of lovely, curious Bulgarian women.

Despite the challenges of language (helped by the heroic efforts of Millena, our translator) we were able to ground our communications in the shared language of the body, and find meaning in the always perfect teaching of the horses.

I am so grateful to Teodora, our organizer, for her vision and persistence.  For now, as my jet lag fades, I will let the photographs speak.

On Saturday we are off to Bulgaria, where I wil be teaching Authentic Movement and writing, then exploring River/Body practices, and finally a five-day workshop in ConsciousTouch, Conscious Movement with Horses.

I am often ambivalent about traveling these days.  More senstive to the bodily discomforts, the weirdness of time changes, the uprooting from routine and all that is familiar and beloved.

Under that is my curiosity and delight in engagement with new people, horses, places.  I love what I learn, who I meet, and what opens unexpectedly. New smells, colors, sounds, connections.

As best I can, I will post photos and impressions on my Instagram page along the way.

Stay tuned!

This is Andrea Kozol dancing with Jaxon earlier this summer at out workshop at the beautiful Mountain Horse Farm.

What I love about this is Jaxon’s ease with this new way of experiencing a human moving.  Too often we are trying to “do” something with the horse, and need them to “do” something in response.  Jaxon teaches us that he can rest in the moment, and at the same time support and receive Andrea’s dance.

I will be offering a demo of how to deepen feel and connection with horses using Conscious Touch and Conscious Movement at Equine Affaire on Saturday morning, November 9.

And next June, I  will be teaching another workshop at Mountain Horse Farm.
